Song Crush of the Week: “But a few leagues off the shore, i bit a flashing lure, and I assure it was not what I expected it to be.”
Former Dresden Doll Amanda Palmer has set out to change the music industry.
After leaving her record label, Amanda spent over four years writing what she believes is her “best f***ing album to date… BEYOND EPIC.” She recorded the album in March with her new band, The Grand Theft Orchestra.
With no major label support, and no money for promotion, mixing and distribution, Amanda found herself at a bit of a standstill. She decided to use an interesting approach, and took to Kickstarter. On April 30, she launched a campaign on the site, which allows users to raise funds for their projects, in exchange for giving donors a copy of the finished product. By May 31st, Amanda had already reached her goal of $1 million.
Amanda’s record Theatre Is Evil, is now available and features the single “The Killing Type,” a brutal love song lead by a thrumming baseline and Palmer’s signature storytelling lyrics, which build to a frantic climax.
Check out it here, along with Amanda’s track-by-track commentary.
